Between Dascottelei, Herentalsebaan and Eksterlaar, Matexi, together with AG VESPA and Vooruitzicht, is developing the residential area of Eksterlaer. The renowned architectural firms POLO and Veelaert developed the master plan, the land development plan and worked them out down to the level of the individual lots. Eksterlaer consists of a few main axes surrounded by various residential areas with a 30 km/h speed limit zone.
All streets have limited car access. The internal circulation of vulnerable road users is separated as much as possible from the internal circulation for motorised traffic and is adapted to the attraction poles (bus stop, school, hospital, shops, ...) in the vicinity of the project area.
A sustainable parking policy in which parking takes place as much underground as possible and a well-considered construction of cycling and walking routes make the neighbourhood safe and child-friendly. The integration of a neighbourhood park provides an attractive green rest and recreation area just a few kilometres from the city.
